Commercial Analysis- Brett Favre-Cold Feet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9enj55iSwk

I chose a Brett Favre Sears commercial 'Cold Feet'. In the commercial Favre is looking at a T.V. The sales associate comes over to him and starts telling him about the T.V., and the best part is the Sears real-time price checks to guarantee you're getting the best price. Then, the joke of the whole commercial, the associate goes on about how some people have a hard time making decisions, how they agonize, waffle, etc. Farve says "Ya those guys drive me crazy," and that he will take the T.V. He ponders it for a second then says "Well.... I donno.." If you're not a follower of the NFL you might not have got the humor in this commercial, which is that Brett Favre can not make up his mind about retiring! Two seasons ago Favre retired from the Green Bay Packers. Halfway through the offseason he decided he wasn't ready to call it quits just yet, and tried coming back to the Packers. However, they said they had moved on and Favre ended up getting traded to the New York Jets. After playing one season in New York, Favre retired from the Jets. Once again he decided he wasn't ready to call it quits, this time coming back to the Minnesota Vikings.
You can break this commercial into three main ideas; people having a hard time making decisions, the inside joke about Brett Favre not being able to decide about his future in the NFL or away from the NFL, and of course Sears selling themselves. The cultural narrative is that Americans agonize over making decisions. Whether it be Brett Favre, the famous NFL quarterback, or just your average joe, and whether it be over something as little as buying a new T.V. or something as huge as retiring from a career you've had for ever.
