Areisha's Experience with Deep Time/Reading

When I was twelve I read the Autobiography of King Henry VIII. It was over 900 pages and took me a couple of weeks to read because I was so young, and as it went on the politics became more complex. I loved the book though, and I loved the fact that at such a young age I could understand most of the key concepts. I think my reading of King Henry VIII’s autobiography fits Birkerts definition of deep time because it did take a great deal of time to read and understand it. It was not a book that you could just skim through. I don’t think I would change anything about Birkerts definition. Deep time or deep reading means you must take a good chunk of time and dedicate it to what you are doing to accomplish full comprehension, as Birkerts points out in his article "The Owl Has Flown."
