carr's controlling idea integrated with the silly mla format!
Nicholas Carr in his article “is Google making us stupid” emphasizes that be perpetually using the computer we are losing our vertical consciousness and becoming computer ourselves by merely skimming information and not absorbing ourselves deeply in knowledge. Marshall McLuhan quotes “once I was a scuba diver in the sea of words. Now I zip along like a jet ski. (Paragraph 5)Another example is when Carr notes “in deciding when to eat, to work, to sleep, to rise, we stopped listening to our senses and started obeying the clock.” (Paragraph 15)Nicholas Carr further exemplifies his analysis of the computers impact by quoting Lewis Mumford “disassociated time from human events and helped create the belief in an independent world of mathematically measurable sequences. (Paragraph 14)
