Reading Response 3 :)

1) My in class essay was about the They Say/I Say method. I wrote about how writing with a purpose is important. Writing with a purpose improves writing in general. Writing about something you care about is more effective than something you do not. I believe that writing with a purpose creates a more interesting. Basically, our input is key in our writings. I stated that I thought that technology was responsible for most of our writing.

2-4) In his writing, Sven Birkets himself writes, “What is true of art is true of serious reading as well. Fewer and fewer people, it seems, have the leisure or the inclination to undertake it,” (Birkets 34). Basically, Seven Birkets is saying is that reading is an art just as much as a painting is. He says that it seems that not very many people take the time to read. Birkets says that we have to use energy when we read and that the more work is required the less we want to do it. This is why people tend to not want to read. I think that this quote says a lot about what Birkets is saying throughout this article.

5) I think that what Birkets is saying about reading is true for writing. It takes energy to write and it is an art that is sometimes overlooked. In my essay I talk about purpose and its effect on writing and I think that that purpose is what motivates people to write. When you care about something you want to share it with the world or maybe just get your ideas out on paper. I believe that the They Say/I Say method is the future of writing and it is just what is needed to motivate people into using their energy to write. Another big part of this motivation is technology. It lets us explore new areas of reading and writing in different ways.
