MONTGOMERY, FLEA MARKET!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ3oHpup-pk

If you watch this video, you may find yourself in beyond mild confusion. All you will get out of it from a surface observation is that the Montgomery Flea Market is just like a mini mall. Or that they have sales that are so slow they have time to film a two minute long commercial repeating the same tune. This is my observation of this video and the deeper messages I get out of it.
First of all it goes without saying that the man has got moves. Moves so fly they were sent from the sky. Not only that, he can create a catchy tune out of a repeated phrase, and occasionally attempting to get the audience involved by saying “c'mon!” But is there a connection between the way he approaches song and dance to his skin color? He has a hip-hop swagger to him, and there's no argument that hip-hop started with African-Americans. This leads me to believe that he's utilizing his roots, taking advantage over the leverage his skin color gives him in the world of hip-hop, and exploiting it to promote his flea market. Because when we see that connection, and we are reminded of the struggle that African Americans endured and how they rose above with many methods such as hip-hop, we want to see him succeed. We want to reward his honoring of his history to market his business by supporting his business. We want to go to that flea market, buy some sofas, maybe a bed or two, and help him rise above his past. Because if he's proud to remind us of his cultures methods of rising above scrutiny and pain, then were proud to support him. It reminds us of the American dream, and makes us proud to be an American. But this could also be a completely abstract and false approach to analyze this commercial. Then again, who can prove a perspective to be false? Indulge in my approach, and enjoy the jolly flea market man!
