Reading Response 2 :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FhiIV6srJ0

In this YouTube video we recognize a familiar singer and clothing designer, Gwen Stefani, walking through the streets. At first we do not know what the commercial is about so it gets us thinking. She starts talking right away about creativity, inspiration, and expression, and how you cannot just turn creativity on and off. There are pictures floating everywhere behind her as she walks. The pictures fly by quickly as you are trying to figure out what is on them and what this commercial is about. You follow her through the streets, listening to what she is saying looking for an answer. It is not till the very end that we find out the commercial is for hp computers that help express creativity.

First of all I would like to say I think it is amazing that a person or a company can make a point or sell a product in thirty seconds. Thinking of a concept and a story that is memorable and relatable to people that will also sell their product.

In this case hp brought a celebrity, Gwen Stefani, to make it memorable and to make people want to listen. Many people, I believe, would consider her a successful woman. So we listen. We hear her talking about her inspiration and even though she does not say exactly what she is talking about we can gather that it is her music and her clothing line. As we are focusing on the pictures and thinking about what she is saying we get to an understanding and think about creativity and “how do people create such amazing things?”

Near the end of the commercial when Stefani is finished speaking, the logo for hp shows up and a man talks about how we can explore our creativity on an hp computer. So it appears that they are selling not just an ordinary computer or laptop, but something better, creativity.
