chasing the american dream

Christina, Bianca, Dillon (Sick)
When it comes to the topic of the American dream, most of us agree anyone can reach their dreams if said person never gives up. Any person regardless of their background or history of oppression to their societal group can reach the stars. Where this argument usually ends is the question, "does reaching your dreams come from more talent or luck." In Robert Scholes “On Reading a Video Text", he suggests that talent will prevail all. In paragraphs 4 and 5 of Scholes text we noticed the reoccurring theme in both chapters seemed to be based on the American Dream. Scholes observes that the media is playing on human desire to want to belong to a group and fit into a cultural construct. He keeps emphasizing how media first sells us a cultural idea that pertains to our lives due to the culture that is inherently America itself; bottom line: Companies push dreams to sell products. Robert Scholes believes "we want the system to work," and "the whole thing; America" He is stating that Americans want to believe the best of our country and that we are possible of anything; it is as much our culture to share this belief as to have a BBQ on Independence Day. Like Robert insists "The system work, America works." Is it true? Depends on how much you believe.
